Firefighter II Certification Requirements

Certification standard:

NFPA 1001, 1992 edition (Chapter 4)

IFSAC Accredited Certifications required before taking the FF II exam:

Firefighter I
HazMat Operations Level

Certification Components:

1) Training (Unless otherwise indicated, training requirements may be met in any order)

Firefighter I Certification
Hazardous Materials Operations Certification
LPG Firefighting or completion of FF II objectives locally
Confined Space Rescue or completion of FF II objectives locally
Trench Rescue or completion of FF II objectives locally
Auto Extrication or completion of FF II objectives locally
Homework Assignment or completion of FF II objectives locally
Fire Academy C or completion of FF II objectives locally

2) Verification of Training

Verification of training by employer on Application for Certification Exam

3) Testing-All training must be completed and verified prior to testing.

FF II Certification Exam (Note: Students wishing to take the FF II Certification exam on the day after an On-Campus Fire Academy C must have completed all of the other training prior to the beginning of the Fire Academy C course.)

What to bring to the certification exam:

Application for Certification Exam completed by the candidate's employer
Photo I.D.
Fire fighter personal protective equipment and SCBA (NFPA compliant)-If a candidate cannot bring this equipment, arrangements can be made to provide them. These arrangements should be made at least 2 weeks prior to the test date.
Please do not bring study materials of any kind including books and skills checklists.

Description of Certification Exam:

Written: 150 Question multiple choice, 70% min. passing grade, 2hr. time limit
Practical: 4 Stations (drawn by students), 2 attempts at each station, 3rd attempt at one of four stations, candidates must demonstrate 100% proficiency in each skill according to the skills checklist. Skills Checklists are available
upon request.
