Response to accidents/traumas may be physical and/or emotional.
Physical responses are a person's unconscious method of coping with an immediate situation.
Victims with no physical injury can experience emotional shock, exhibited by rapid respiration/heart beat, perspiration, trembling, and vomiting.
Care for emotional shock is the same as for physical shock.
Migraine headaches are caused by blood vessels constricting in the brain.
Emotional responses may include: State of Disorganization, State of Depression, Panic-prone Reaction, or Paranoid Reaction.
Categories of paranoia include mental instability (seen with traumatic experiences) and drug-induced psychosis.
Compassion and professional expertise are the two best personal traits for a rescuer to have.
A victim's emotional state can be improved by providing them with as much information as possible.
The primary responsibilities of rescuers during a rescue is to free trapped victims, move them to safety, and prevent or cushion the effect of emotional responses to the incident.
Rescuers must assume an "impersonal" attitude with the victim's family.

Victims should be stabilized and examined for injuries before moving.
